Import declarations: what to prepare in advance
A short list for importers: what you will need and what to know before filing.

Who files the declaration
A declaration is filed by the person concerned or their representative. As a rule, the declarant must be established in Georgia (Customs Code, Article 87).
Which documents to prepare
The final list depends on the goods and the procedure. In practice you usually need:
- Invoice
- Transport document, such as a CMR, AWB or bill of lading
- Packing list
- Contract, if you have one
- Certificates or permits, if the goods require them
Check that the description, quantity, weight and value of the goods match across all documents.
Can you declare in advance
Yes. A declaration can be filed before the goods are imported. If the goods do not arrive within 45 calendar days of registration, they must be declared again (Customs Code, Article 88; Revenue Service brochure).
What customs may ask for
Customs may examine the declaration and documents, request additional documents, examine the goods and take samples (Customs Code, Article 96).
